How to Get More Rest While You Travel for Business
Travel can be exhilarating but exhausting, particularly if you are moving from one meeting to the next with little time to recover in between. With a few minor adjustments, however, you could be catching up on some well-earned rest during your travels – so read on for our top tips to help you sleep well and perform better when it matters.
- Get some sleep on the plane
This might be easier said than done if you’re surrounded by screaming children or raucous groups of friends flying for a long weekend away, so make sure you pack earplugs, a sleep mask, noise cancelling headphones, and a good quality travel pillow to give you the best chance of getting some shut-eye. If it is essential that you are able to sleep whilst you fly, you may want to consider upgrading to first or business class if possible – this tends to be a more soothing experience, allowing you to relax and unwind between high-pressure work commitments.
- Know when to say ‘no’
It is common to feel guilty for saying ‘no’ but sometimes this is the only way to give yourself chance to rest and recover ready for the demands of your day. For example, if you are asked to join a group of co-workers for dinner when you arrive at your destination, don’t just agree as a reflex – think about whether the time could be better used to get some much-needed rest if you have another busy day ahead. As tempting as it might be you’ll perform much better in your work if you give yourself the opportunity to recover from travel and other demands of your busy schedule.
- Schedule your time well
This requires a little forward planning, but try to schedule in rest time when you are planning out your upcoming business trip. It can be tempting to try and shoehorn everything in to the time you have available but this can prove counter-productive. Make sure you leave yourself sufficient time to decompress after lengthy travel or an intense business meeting so that you are refreshed and ready to tackle the next task with renewed energy.
- Do some relaxation exercises
If you find it difficult to sleep when you arrive at your hotel after lengthy travels or a stressful day, try some exercises to encourage your mind to slow down and allow you to relax. Practicing mindfulness is another great way to bring your thoughts to the present moment and stop worrying about what has been and what is to come. Download some apps to help you with this before you travel – there are many available to address a whole range of common problems.
- Use a professional car service
Don’t give yourself the added stress of car rental, navigating nightmare traffic, or unreliable public transport on your business trip and trust in our Connecticut limo service to get you where you need to be in style and on schedule. You can sit back and relax safe in the knowledge that our professional chauffeurs have got all your transport needs covered, so you can take the time to catch up on some much-needed rest and recuperation.
